As part of his summer tour, colleagues and tenants met with the Minister for Housing, Paul McLennan, for a visit to our brand-new development in Glen Albyn, Kirkcaldy, which consists of 49 energy-efficient affordable homes.
The tour included a walk around the development where colleagues involved in the project could discuss the build in more detail. The Minister was also invited into the homes of two tenants to see the internal components and chat with them about how they were settling in.
Delivered in partnership with The JR Group, the landmark project comprises a selection of two, three and four-bedroomed houses and includes a number of wheelchair-accessible bungalows which offer a selection of adaptations and will positively impact tenants.
The Minister was kindly invited into one of the adapted bungalows by tenant David Jackson, who was happy to show off the features of his new home.
The Minister was also shown some of the sustainability features that have been incorporated, including photovoltaic solar panels and electric battery storage technology designed to meet energy and heating gold standards. Colleagues also pointed out eco-diversity features, including bird and bat boxes installed in some of the homes and an existing wildflower meadow retained with new footpaths installed for the community to enjoy the surrounding area. The local playpark has also been upgraded as part of the community benefits programme.
Housing Minister Paul McLennan said; “The right to a warm, safe and affordable home is critical to wellbeing and is a right everyone deserves. Fife Housing Group plays a valuable role in increasing the range of housing available to rent throughout Scotland.
“The Scottish Government has supported this development with £3.9million. This has enabled Fife Housing Group to provide 49 high-quality, energy-efficient, affordable homes at this site in Kirkcaldy.
“High-quality housing is a key pillar of Housing to 2040, whilst also eradicating fuel poverty and homelessness and ensuring everyone has access to green space and essential services, and I welcome these new affordable homes here in Fife.”
Our Director of Housing, Beverley Graham, commented on the Minister’s visit; ‘We are delighted that the Minister came to visit our Glen Albyn Development as part of his summer tour. Fife Housing Group are committed to providing our communities with affordable housing and we are really proud of this forward-thinking development. So to be able to show the Minister the types of homes we are building that show our commitment to our communities and the environment has been fantastic.’
The Glen Albyn development sets a new standard of building for us, focusing on providing warm, safe, affordable and energy-efficient homes that meet the needs of tenants and in a community they feel part of.
