Fife Housing Group held their free Summer FLING community event in Abbeyview last week, offering local residents the opportunity to sample, save and socialise through a range of fun activities and expert advice.
Thanks to sponsors Everwarm, guests also went away with a selection of fantastic freebies, totalling over £2,000. These included airfryers and shopping vouchers.
Visitors to the event at St Ninian’s Church, Abbeyview could participate in several cost of living themed activities, such as cooking on a budget, growing their own vegetables and creating all-natural cleaning products.
Fife Housing Group colleagues were available to advise on important topics including dealing with damp and mould and checking payment and benefit entitlements. The event also saw the return of ‘Freeloved by FHG’, an initiative recycling preloved items of clothing by offering them to guests for free.
Partners, including Salvation Army Employment Plus, Fife Gingerbread, HSBC and Cosy Kingdom, were in attendance to offer professional advice on subjects such as reducing energy bills, budgeting and improving the local environment.
There was also plenty to keep the kids entertained with a ceramic painting station, a colouring competition and the therapy dogs from Cariad Pet Therapy.
Everyone who came along seemed to enjoy themselves, sharing lots of positive feedback such as “I loved that everyone was treated equally” and “My daughter really enjoyed the kids’ corner. The free soup-making kit will give us an activity to do together.”
Engagement Officer Suzanne Hume, who led the event, commented, “After the success of our Spring FLING in April we were delighted to host a similar event in Abbeyview. Our Summer FLING was a huge success. It was fantastic to see so many tenants and members of the community turn up. Thanks to the sponsorship from our contractor, Everwarm, we were once again able to give away lots of incredible freebies including air fryers, supermarket vouchers, food bags and cleaning supplies. Our team hopes to organise more events like these in the future to help people navigate the cost of living crisis.”
Fife Housing Group are committed to supporting their tenants and local communities through events like their Summer FLING. An event to celebrate their ‘Giving Something Back’ grants will take place in August so look out for more information on their website and social media channels soon.
