Fife Housing Group challenges myths and helps pupils explore careers in social housing

5 June 2026

Colleagues from Fife Housing Group recently visited Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy to take part in the school’s Industry Day.

The event brought together local businesses and organisations to speak with S3 pupils about careers and the different options available after leaving school.

Fife Housing Group delivered two interactive sessions, designed to challenge some common myths about social housing. Pupils also learned more about homelessness and housing challenges in Fife.

Additionally, the sessions explored the different careers available at Fife Housing Group. This included apprenticeships, trades, housing, operations, communications and marketing roles.

As part of the workshops, pupils were given two real-life housing scenarios to discuss in groups. This encouraged conversations about the complex issues involved, challenges people can face and what sort of support could be available.

Karen Begg, Communications and Engagement Manager at Fife Housing Group, said, ‘It was fantastic to take part in Balwearie High School’s S3 Industry Day and to speak with so many young people about the housing sector and the different career opportunities it offers.’

‘A big part of the session was about challenging myths around social housing and increasing awareness of some of the issues facing communities across Fife. The pupils were really engaged throughout the workshops and asked some great questions.’

Fife Housing Group is committed to supporting local communities and helping young people learn more about the housing sector and the different careers available within it.

Earlier this year, Fife Housing Group also delivered two workshops for 16 to 24-year-olds, covering topics including budgeting, bills and housing choices. The sessions helped young people build the skills and confidence needed to manage their first home.

Fife Housing Group looks forward to continuing to support young people through future school visits, industry days and career workshops across Fife.
